Peter Reynolds is Executive Director and one of the owners at Kilgray Translation
Technologies. Prior to Kilgray he worked at Idiom Technologies Inc. (now SDL PLC),
Berlitz GlobalNet, Bowne Global Solution and Lionbridge. Peter has been actively involved in the development and promotion of standards (notably XLIFF) for over a decade - he is an Irish expert to ISO/CEN, and Deputy Chair of the Irish ISO TC 37 Mirror Committee.
Peter is the Project Editor for ISO 17100 (which is the successor to European EN 15038 standard) and will be published by ISO this May. He holds and BSc and an MBA degree
from Open University, and is a localization and translation industry veteran.

2004年に3人の言語技術者によりハンガリーで創立されたKilgray社は今や6ヶ国40名の従業員を抱える企業へと成長を遂げ、さらなる躍進が期待される。リリースされたばかりの「memoQ 2015」は同社の代表的な翻訳支援ツールであり、当説明会のためにハンガリーから講師を迎えた。
第一部では、日本でのカスタマーサポートを担当されている三浦氏によりプレゼンテーションスライドを中心にmemoQの基本事項をご紹介いただいた。
まず、memoQも他の翻訳支援ツール同様に翻訳タスクは案件ごとにプロジェクトという単位で管理されており、翻訳対象の文書や翻訳メモリ、用語ベースなどから構成されているとのこと。特筆すべきは「ミューズ」と呼ばれるアイテムであり、これにより、翻訳メモリのみではなく、ライブ文書内も対象にして頻繁に使用されている表現を解析して、翻訳中に使用するべき表現の候補として提案してくれるという。
memoQでのプロジェクト管理は［ダッシュボード］上で実行される。memoQ 2015では翻訳プロジェクト作成を簡略化するための機能が新たに搭載され、翻訳対象文書をWindowsエクスプローラ上で右クリックすると、翻訳プロジェクトを作成するオプションがコンテキストメニューに表示される。または、ダッシュボード上の特定エリアに翻訳対象文書をドロップするだけでもプロジェクト作成を開始できる。
memoQで対応しているインポート用ファイルフィルターの豊富さには驚く。メジャーなOffice系、DTP系、マークアップ言語、リソースファイルのデータ形式ばかりではなく、列ごとに言語が異なる複数言語を含む「Multilingual Excel」などにも対応しているという。翻訳対象外のテキストをタグにするため、フィルターをカスタマイズすることも可能とのこと。さらには、他社の翻訳支援ツールで生成された翻訳用データやXLIFFにも対応している。
翻訳作業の効率を上げるための機能も数多く搭載されており、memoQの柔軟性が伺える。翻訳文書をバージョン管理して作業履歴を追跡できるだけでなく、変更履歴から差分を抽出してWord文書へのエクスポートも可能。さらには、レビュー済み文書をインポートする機能があり、エクスポート後の文書に対する更新内容を翻訳メモリへ反映させることもできる。「MatchPatchヒット」と呼ばれる新機能では、翻訳メモリからのファジーマッチに対して、差分箇所をパッチ修正してくれるそうだ。例えば、検出されたファジーマッチの差分箇所に用語ベースヒットがあった場合には訳語を挿入してくれる。MatchPatchヒットはマッチ率に表示されるシンボルにより判別が可能であり、ワードカウントにおいても区分される。翻訳作業中に「略語」を追加登録するとリアルタイムでセグメンテーションが改善されるという機能も重宝する。
多様な機能が実装されているmemoQだが、用語集、翻訳メモリおよび機械翻訳に関連するプラグインも使用できるだけでなく、利用中の機械翻訳システムと連携させるためのSDKも使用可能とのこと。リボンのカスタマイズが可能である、キーボード・ショートカットのカスタマイズ機能が向上したと聞くだけでもユーザーフレンドリーさが伺える。
そして、オンラインプロジェクトとして翻訳作業を効率よく進行するためのmemoQ serverも紹介された。2015の刷新によりプロジェクトマネージャ（PM）用のダッシュボードが改善され、プロジェクト管理を明瞭に実行できるそうだ。進捗管理はもちろん、納期が経過したプロジェクトをアラート一覧にリストしたり、プロジェクトを開かずともダッシュボード上で詳細を確認して翻訳者を再割り当てすることも可能とのこと。ユーザーグループを作成することができるため、プロジェクトに限定したアクセス権の設定や、同様のプロジェクトを作成するためのテンプレートも利用できるという。また、プロジェクトテンプレートを利用することによって特定のプロセスを自動化することもできる。例えば、翻訳者による翻訳作業を完了すると、次に作業を開始するレビューワーにメールでの通知が実施され、さらには納期が近づくとリマインダーまで送られてくるという。
また、memoQ serverには「モバイルライセンス」という貸し出し可能なライセンスが用意されている。さらには、memoQ serverのオンラインプロジェクトをウェブブラウザーで管理・翻訳するためのシステムである「memoQWeb」も利用できるとのこと。
ユーザーの声を反映しての成長が益々楽しみなツールと言えるのではないだろうか。
The second and third parts were presented by Mr. Reynolds in English. He introduced Kilgray, as a Hungarian company established 10 years ago. memoQ is indeed a representative product of this world’s fastest growing translation technology vendor and he came all the way from Hungary to Japan especially for this presentation.
In the beginning, he emphasized that “easy-to-use” is crucial for translation tools. He demonstrated a project setup with repetitive use of the same template, which may save the information related to Translation Memory and Termbase. He introduced us the various options for project settings such as segmentation and contents source connection which makes it possible to setup an automatic connection with the file to be translated. However, it looked as if “memoQ does it all” for creating a project. Also, he has shown us some details of Project Management Dashboard, reminding us that it is not necessary for a PM to open and work with each project individually. The details about the projects can be all seen on the Dashboard. He indicated us that the Dashboard has a main part which lists the projects and on the right hand side a tab where details or alerts can be viewed. It is possible to see if the projects is ready for export directly from the dashboard as well seeing the error history and use automated steps such as re-assigning translators.
It was quite interesting to see the display of his smartphone on the projector, and we could see an alert for the overdue task and his operation of translator re-assignment. As he was re-selecting a translator, it was possible to distinguish a translator who had been already assigned to other projects.
Mr. Reynolds also demonstrated “QTerm”, a Web-based Terminology Management system. He has explained that investment in terminology reduces translation cost. We should know that the later a terminology error is found and resolved the more expensive it is to fix. It is necessary to know what’s important for you and what tool suits you the best. He reminded us that QTerm is a professional business tool and supports TBX, which makes it possible to exchange terminology with other terminology management tools. Of course, QTerm works seamlessly with memoQ.
It was also mentioned that they plan to enhance the technical support for Japan. Though their support is already available for 365 days per year, and Mr. Miura is taking care of support requests in Japanese. As well, they plan to have more webinars in Japanese. We shall be looking forward for even more development from Kilgray.
